Industry leaders from animated film, live-action film, and media will talk about the current challenges they face working in this rapidly changing medium and where they see virtual storytelling headed to in the future.

Samir Mallal is a filmmaker whose work touches commercials, virtual reality, and documentaries. The brands he has worked with in advertising include: Coca Cola, Dell, Total, Google, GE, LG, Starbucks, Smirnoff, Tropicana, and Johnnie Walker. In 2015 Samir directed the VR film New Wave with Aron Hjtartarson from Framestore. New Wave is captured in spherical live action video, and is the first VR film to feature dynamically changing, character specific voiceover. He has also made three documentaries: Discordia, Bombay Calling and Nollywood Babylon. He was nominated with co-director Ben Addelman for the "Best World Cinema - Documentary" award during the 2009 Sundance Film Festival for the film Nollywood Babylon. He won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles for Bombay Calling. In 2010, he won Best Young Director and a Gold Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He was also selected for the Saatch & Saatchi New Directors Showcase.

After building from ground up CUBOCC's media capability, Matheus co-founded FLAGCX holding by architecting the business model for exponential growth and fast change. He launched one of the largest programmatic solutions in Brazil, is currently the CEO for the USA office in New York where he leads the group global expansion and was considered top 50 most innovative marketing professionals in Brazil in 2014 and one of 2016 AdAge's 40 under 40 list. Before joining advertising, Matheus was a marketer at Unilever majorly working with AXE.

Dan Novy (also known as NovySan) is a PhD student at the MIT Media Lab, where he works to decrease the alienation fostered by traditional passive media consumption; increase social interaction through transparent, interconnected and fluid media; and create enriched, active, and inspired immediate experiences. He is an Emmy- and Visual Effects Society Award-winning VFX Technical Supervisor, Transmedia Experience Designer, and Artist. At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he received a BFA in Theatre and an MA in Theatre History, with a double emphasis in the technical history of the theatre and shamanic ritual performance in pre-agrarian societies. He is the former Chair of the Visual Effects Society's Technology Committee, former Visiting Scientist at Magic Leap, and Co-Instructor of the Media Lab's 'Science Fiction-Inspired Prototyping' and 'Indistinguishable From Magic' classes.

Shannon brings her traditional filmmaking experience to the pioneering medium of narrative VR.
